Happy Cat in the sun

Happy Cat in the Sun

Happy cat, Nibbles, enjoying the sunshine, in her favourite “summer spot” in the garden.

Happy Cat

My cat loves the warm weather. She has a couple of spots picked out in the garden to make the best of the sun, or even shelter in the shade when the sun gets too hot.

The Snowdrops are Out

Snowdrops in Evenley Wood Gardens on the opening day of 2017

There we were, sitting enjoying Saturday brunch. Remarkably, given the recent gloomy, cold overcast weather, the sun came out. We decided a walk in the woods was good idea. I have to say that the African in me balked a bit at going outside in cold with no rugby to watch!

Evenley Wood Garden is one of those places. Pretty, a nice spot to be in, but it's less than 3 miles away, so you never go there. A quick check on the Internet showed that Saturday was Evenley's opening day for 2017. And the snowdrops were out.

After the wet weather the gardens are a bit muddy and slippery. As it is early in the season there are not many flowers to see, but it is still a lovely spot to take an afternoon walk. A few people seemed to agree, as we were not the only ones there.

An excellent cup of coffee and some cake topped off the afternoon in the little tea room.

Evenley Wood Gardens is definitely a spot we will be visiting again. Especially as the flowers bloom. And we saw the snowdrops!

A Walk in Evenley Wood Gardens

A cool day in February, but the sun came out and made it a cool but pleasant day.

First butterfly of spring

Sunny Spring Sunday

First butterfly of spring

What a beautiful sunny spring Sunday. Spring definitely seems to be here, and the flowers and insects were feeling it too.
A good day to get in some practice with the macro lens. What started out as a matter of some flower close-ups, ended up chasing butterflies parking in the sun on some pretty pink flowers, along with a ladybird on a big green leaf. Final shot was of a pretty yellow rose catching the sun.

Interesting Light in the Rosebuds

Photography is about getting the light right. The right colour and the right balance.

Now there’s something about this picture that I just like, though I am not sure why. I think it is the way the light has highlighted the rosebud and a couple of leaves, without a huge and unmanageable contrast.

No fancy processing here, just levels and crop. Shot with a 70-300 zoom in macro mode.

Too slow to catch the real action, but in time to catch one very embarrassed cat.

I heard a couple of birds making the noise that they only make when something is threatening them. In fact a blackbird and his mate had backed the cat against a wall and were taking it in turns to dive bomb her and “shout” at her.

It would appear the she felt like a bit of fresh meat for lunch, but her prey bit back.
It’s said that cats kill many animals when nobody can see them. This cat probably doesn’t offer a huge threat to the rest of the natural world!
